Assessment of the patented "VHO-Osthold-Brace® perfect" for entry in the medical aids catalogue.
Having studied the VHO Osthold therapy intensively (I was also present at a treatment session) I feel the need to call attention to the "VHO-Osthold-Brace® perfect" with reference to nail correction and connected treatments.
As the "VHO-Osthold-Brace® perfect" consists of 3 pieces it can be applied even in the most severe cases (eg in cases of hypergranulation) in comparison to the “training brace” which requires a silicone impression and a plaster cast. The edges of the nail can be lifted immediately with defined pulling strength, whereby the pressure is taken off the infected area and the patient relieved of pain.
In most cases an extremely painful operation can be avoided in contrast to the usual treatment methods. As a paediatrician I am of course particularly keen to save a child from having an operation.
I feel it is an urgent necessity that this treatment method is paid for by the health insurance when referred by a doctor to enable all patients to access this treatment. Currently the reimbursement level depends on the area you are living in.
In my opinion it not only has a therapeutic but also a general economic value. The operation does not provide a permanent solution (several operations are often necessary) and consequently causes loss of working / school hours, which can be avoided by applying the "VHO-Osthold-Brace® perfect" and a lasting healing process can be achieved.
I am of the opinion that the VHO Osthold treatment could help cut costs in the health system.
